Well, I did it.
The first round of edits for Book Two is officially finished, and I have to admit, it feels surprisingly good to type those words.
When I finished the first draft, I was excited simply because the story existed. It wasn't perfect, but it was there. Then came the edits. The stage where you discover that some scenes are stronger than you thought, some aren't nearly as good as you remembered, and a few chapters seem determined to fight you every step of the way.
This round of editing was all about digging deeper. I tightened scenes, expanded moments that deserved more attention, and cut a few things that just weren't serving the story. As painful as it can be to remove sections you've spent hours writing, the book is always better for it.
One thing that continues to surprise me is how much I learn about my characters during edits. You'd think after writing an entire book with them I'd know everything there is to know, but somehow they still find ways to reveal new layers of themselves. Some of my favorite moments in this manuscript weren't even planned when I started.
Editing is a strange process. One day you're convinced you've written something wonderful. The next day you're questioning every sentence you've ever put on a page. Somehow, somewhere in the middle of all that uncertainty, the story gets stronger.
There's still plenty of work ahead. More revisions, more polishing, and more details to fine-tune before Book Two is ready. But this feels like a major milestone, and I'm taking a moment to appreciate it before jumping into the next phase.
Thank you for following along on this journey. Whether you've been here from the beginning or recently discovered my work, your support means more than you know.
Now it's time to open the manuscript again and see what the next round of edits has in store.
Wish me luck.
